Instagram has been a very hot platform for some time, and that's not expected to change anytime soon. In fact, I would say that it is the hottest platform right now. If you own a business in any niche - and provide any kind of product or service - it would serve you well to have an attractive public Instagram profile. You will however need to work very hard at it in order to make your profile popular and have it attract new followers.

Here I will try to give you some hints on how to create a popular Instagram account that is a magnet for new followers.

Instagram's algorithm is not really known, although the amount of "likes" seems to be an important factor. Your chances of appearing popular will increase the more likes you get - so you'll want to amass these as quickly as possible. This means that the most fundamental and important criterion is the number of followers you gain on your account. Nonetheless, it is also equally important that you work on your profile with genuine interest.

Just like Twitter, following a lot of people on Instagram is the easiest way of gaining "followers" - as a certain number of the accounts you follow will add you back. Be sure to unfollow those who don't have any intention of following you back. You are only able to follow 7K users at this time, so you'll have to work within that constraint. Remember you have to work hard at making your Instagram profile attractive as well.

Here are simple steps to make this happen.-

1. Use a name people will remember.

Use your original name and nickname, which are easy to mention and remember.

2. Use a good profile picture.

You can always make your picture stand out, even if you are self-conscious with how you look. You can take a good picture at a good angle, and use some neat filters if you desire.

3. Describe who you are in a nutshell on your profile.

You can say what you do in a word, and your passions, and add humour to it if you can.

4. Be sure that the picture quality is high.

Be creative, original and spend time editing your pictures.

5. List descriptive information on your pictures.

What is the purpose of your pictures? Be sure to explain it.

6. Share knowledge.

Add value to the lives of your users and they will follow you with more interest.

7. Show interest in your users

If you want a bigger group of followers, be ready to spend more time communicating with your community.

8. Be original by using emoticons in your comments and nicks.

9. Be sure to hashtag your content! For more hashtagging tips, go here!

Remember there are millions of Instagram users around the world. Don't forget, Instagram is a global app and your location is very important in your attempt to become the most popular on Instagram.

If you are from a country like Japan or USA, where Instagram is massively used, you will have a greater chance of entering the rankings that list you as popular. Along with location, the time you post is equally important to get followers.

If you want local followers from your time zone, then you should post in the morning while they are awake but still in bed, and/or at night when they are headed to bed. Users tend to check their Instagram account and other social network profiles at these times. However, if location is not a concern, post at anytime you wish. Good luck with creating a highly popular Instagram account.
