Increase Candidate Engagement with Social Networking Behaviour

Whether you like it or not, social media has become a major part of our daily lives as professional recruiters and individuals. With all of the social media options available today, business leaders are also taking advantage when it comes to increasing the engagement of candidates for available jobs.

Every company can succeed by using social networking tools when communicating with candidates -- to get them excited about potential opportunities to be part of your corporate culture. Be sure your company is using the right tactics, which are outlined in this post.

Always Give Back

When using social media to engage passive candidates (those not actively seeking employment, but willing to learn more), be sure to give something back instead of taking information from users all the time. As much as you want to learn about the candidate and all they have to offer, companies need to provide candidates with information. This will help candidates become more engaged. Provide candidates with invitations to events, dinners, training sessions, white papers, contests, rewards and much more.

Use Multiple Outlets

In an effort to support the engagement of candidates, be sure that your company uses every social media outlet possible. This means creating accounts on Twitter, Facebook, Google+, YouTube and LinkedIn. Having fresh content on all of these networks helps engage all of your followers. When using these channels, be sure to take advantage of chat features, videos, uploads, downloads and collaboration when engaging your candidates. The more the content is spread out amongst these channels, the more engaged your candidates will be.

Do Not Stalk Community Users

It is important that your company does not appear to “stalk” users on community forums. Do not overwhelm your employment candidates with information. It might make them feel like they are being sold. Let these candidates come to your company by referrals from their trusted peers on social networks. When dealing with passive candidates, you want to build a strong relationship. You do not want to focus too heavily on filing the open jobs you have at the company today.

Think Like a Passive Candidate

An excellent way to engage passive candidates is to think like them when using social media. Make sure your social media posts outline and display the company culture, the work environment, the benefits and the rewards of working for the company. Also display what the work/life balance is like at your company. These factors can support a more engaged candidate pool, which results in candidates who are ready to work with you when the time comes.

The Content Has to be Fresh

Your social media content must be fresh in order to engage candidates. The more often you post fresh content, the more likely it is that candidates will return to your social media pages. This keeps them interested in your topics and your company for the long haul.

Use Social Networking Tools

There are some effective social media tools out there that can help with engagement. Those tools include Sprout Social and Hootsuite Reports. Sprout Social allows you to create your brand across all of your social media accounts. Hootsuite Reports allows you to track social media users, brand effectiveness, analyze traffic to social media accounts and much more.
